Gender and Development Activity
Dr. Victoria B. Roman Memorial High School conducted its Gender and Development activity on May 6, 2026 at Sadulo Resort, Orion, Bataan, focusing on gender-responsive, safe, inclusive, and supportive practices for school personnel and stakeholders.
The activity provided school personnel with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of Gender and Development principles and their application in the school setting. It also served as a venue for reflection, discussion, and collaboration in support of a safe, motivating, and inclusive learning environment.
The program opened with the registration of participants, followed by the opening program, audio-visual presentation, prayer, nationalistic song, and roll call. Welcome remarks were delivered by Dr. Angelo R. Basilio, EdD, School Principal IV, who also introduced key policy directions related to ensuring a safe and motivating school environment.
Session 1: GAD and the Law
The first session, titled “GAD and the Law: Equipping School Personnel for Gender-Responsive and Safe Practices,” was facilitated by Ms. Sarah A. Palaypay, PPW II from Balanga City. The discussion emphasized the importance of understanding gender-related laws, policies, and school-based responsibilities in creating a respectful and protective environment for learners and personnel.
An open forum and question-and-answer portion followed the session, allowing participants to clarify concerns and relate the discussion to actual school situations.
Session 2: Reflections and GAD Applications
The second session focused on School Personnel Reflections and Discussion on GAD Applications. Facilitated by Ms. Fatima Faye Romero, Teacher III, the interactive activity encouraged participants to connect GAD concepts with daily workplace behavior, communication, learner support, and professional responsibility.
Session 3: Self-Reflection and Mental Wellness
In the afternoon, Ms. Marrian V. De Jesus, Guidance Designate, facilitated a Self-Reflection and Mental Wellness Workshop for School Personnel. The session highlighted the importance of emotional awareness, mental wellness, and personal reflection in building a healthier and more compassionate school community.
Discussion on the School Manual
The program also included a discussion on the School Manual, with the participation of school stakeholders and SPTA representatives, including Ms. Milagros Atienza and Ms. Ana Liza Parcon. This portion reinforced the role of shared responsibility in improving school systems, policies, and practices.
Gender and Development is not only a compliance requirement. It is a continuing commitment to fairness, respect, safety, dignity, and meaningful participation within the school community.
The GAD activity concluded with the synthesis of learnings and closing remarks. Through the conduct of this activity, Dr. Victoria B. Roman Memorial High School reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a school culture where every learner, teacher, employee, parent, and stakeholder is valued, respected, and protected.
Key Takeaway
A gender-responsive school is not built through one activity alone. It is strengthened through consistent practice, shared accountability, clear policies, respectful communication, and the daily commitment of every member of the school community.
