On January 23, 2025, at exactly 9:00 AM, the school community successfully conducted an earthquake drill aimed at promoting safety and preparedness. The activity involved students, teachers, non-teaching staff, and other stakeholders, all of whom worked together to simulate a coordinated response to a potential earthquake scenario. Organized by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) team led by the School Principal and DRRM Coordinator Alijah Louise Dalde, the drill emphasized the importance of knowing what to do during emergencies, particularly in a country like the Philippines, which is prone to seismic activities due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire.
The drill began with the sound of an alarm, signaling the start of the simulation. Upon hearing the alarm, everyone practiced the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" procedure, crouching under desks and tables to shield themselves from potential falling debris. This was followed by an orderly evacuation led by designated teachers who guided participants to their respective assembly points. Students and staff demonstrated discipline and calmness throughout the exercise, which was a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering a culture of preparedness.
This earthquake drill served as a critical reminder of the importance of safety protocols. It highlighted the need to act swiftly and correctly during an earthquake, such as taking cover, avoiding panic, and following evacuation routes. Additionally, the activity underscored the value of teamwork and collaboration, as everyone had specific roles to play in ensuring the drill’s success. By practicing these measures, the participants were better equipped to respond effectively in the event of a real disaster.
While the drill was largely successful, a few areas for improvement were noted. Clearer communication during the evacuation process and increased visibility of exit points were identified as aspects that need to be refined. Special attention will also be given to ensuring that students with special needs receive adequate support during such activities. These observations will help in planning future drills and strengthening the school’s overall disaster preparedness.

The earthquake drill was not just an exercise but also a proactive step toward safeguarding lives. It reinforced the school’s commitment to creating a safe and resilient learning environment for everyone. By taking these drills seriously, the school community acknowledges the reality that preparedness can mean the difference between life and death during emergencies.
This activity served as a reminder that safety is everyone’s responsibility and that constant practice and awareness are essential in mitigating the risks posed by natural disasters. Through continuous efforts like these, the school ensures that its stakeholders are equipped to face any challenge that may come their way.
