November 4, 2025 — Pilar, Bataan

Dr. Victoria B. Roman Memorial High School was named Best Implementer of the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program (GPP) at the district level for SY 2025–2026, recognizing the school’s productive garden, strong community participation, and integration of gardening into learning and wellness.

“This award belongs to our learners, teachers, parents, and partners who planted, watered, composted, and showed up every week. Gulayan is more than a garden—it is nutrition, discipline, science, and bayanihan in action,” said Dr. Angelo Basilio, School Principal IV.

What Set Our Gulayan Apart

  • Productive, diverse garden blocks. Rotational beds of pechay, talong, kamatis, sitaw, okra, and more; staggered planting for continuous harvest.
  • Sustainable practices. On-site vermicomposting, mulching, and low-cost IPM (soap, neem/chili extracts) to reduce waste and chemicals.
  • Learner participation. Homerooms and clubs adopted plots, kept growth logs, and linked tasks to Science, MAPEH, and TLE activities.
  • Feeding and welfare support. Harvests augmented the school canteen and simple homeroom meals/snacks.
  • Community & LGU ties. Parents, barangay, and agriculture partners provided seedlings, tools, and weekend manpower.
  • Safety & accountability. Tool sign-out, water-use monitoring, and daily garden checklists kept operations organised and student-safe.

How Gulayan Supports Learning
  • Curriculum connection. Beds served as living labs for photosynthesis, soil health, measurement/data, and basic entrepreneurship.
  • Values formation. Routines in weeding, watering, and harvest fostered discipline, teamwork, and respect for food.
  • School pride. Greener spaces improved campus ambience and provided calm, purposeful areas for mini-activities.

Gratitude and Acknowledgements

The school thanks the Gulayan Core Team led by Mrs. Alijah Louise D. Dalde, together with teachers, non-teaching personnel, the PTA, student organizations, barangay partners, and the agriculture offices for providing seedlings, compost materials, and technical guidance.

What’s Next

  • Seasonal replanting aligned to rainfall patterns and class schedules
  • Expansion of vermicast production and a seedling nursery
  • Student micro-projects: health recipe cards, cost-tracking sheets, garden-based science exhibits
  • Stronger canteen menu compliance with DepEd nutrition guidance
Congratulations, Victorians! Let us continue building healthy schools through hands-on learning. Instilling Discipline. Inspiring Excellence.
